Cougar Current Events
Who: 4th & 5th Grade Students
When: Tuesday, November 1—Thursday, April 6
What: Students are encouraged to read at LEAST 12 books from the appropriate grade list. Students will be required to pass an AR test on each book to receive credit! A festival will be held at the Galesburg High School Field House on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 complete with pizza, games and contests. Students who read 12 books will qualify for the festival and will receive a free book & medal. Students who read all 28 books will also receive a free Readermania tee-shirt. Students can check out books from their classroom libraries, the school library or the display at the Galesburg Public Library.
Our Gale Cougars are the REIGNING CHAMPS FROM 2015—2016 and we are excited to bring home another trophy this year.
Illinois Young Authors 2016
Who: Kindergarten—5th grade
When: Start Date: November 3 / Books Due: February 16 / 12 School Winners Announced: March 3
What: Begin your story NOW! Begin with a story map and your best ideas. Next, write a first draft, proofread, edit, and revise your story. Either handwrite or type your story and add your own illustrations!
All students who participate will receive a ribbon. The author’s of the top 12 books, will receive a medal and be invited to a Celebration Breakfast at Lake Storey Pavilion.
